Das Salzburger Institut für Raumordnung und Wohnungswesen

The Salzburg Institute for Regional Planning and Housing (SIR) was founded more than 40 years ago and has ever since supported the development of communities and regions. In the last two decades, the energy department has been developed as an additional focus of the institute. In addition to Salzburg, the area of activity covers the entire federal territory as well as Europe as a whole. SIR’s interdisciplinary team provides research, planning and advisory services in the areas of spatial planning, housing, energy and community development.
Specific activities in the field of energy include municipality and region consultation (chairmanship and federal program management of e5 municipalities), studies of energy potentials, development of energy guidelines and programs of measures for municipalities and cities (including strategic advice and support of the SMART CITY SALZBURG and coordination of the national smart city platform), settlement treatment (energy optimization through integrative concepts, various research projects (e.g. Project management IEA Annex 63)) and the combination of buildings and heat (regional partners of the programs “build and renovate” and “renewable heat” of the national climate protection initiative klima:aktiv, focus on settlements).
